Michel Salgado of Blackburn Rovers is considering an offer to finish his football career at LA Galaxy with his friend David Beckham.
The Rovers footballer has been frozen out at the club because of a dispute regarding the contract and is pondering over a last move when he turns into a free agent during the transfer window this summer.
The Spanish player has already got an offer from Qatar and another one from LA Galaxy which may reunite him with the former Real Madrid star Beckham in the Major League Soccer. The 36 year old full back is quite keen to play once again after being left by Blackburn Rovers since December, because he was quite near to making several appearances that would have triggered a new contract automatically.
Rovers have shunned 2 times Champions League winner when they were fighting to be at the Premier League and Salgado would have asked for a contract extension and keep playing at the club.
According to sources Michel Salgado felt that he might help the side, but before Christmas, he was told that he could not play. He was ready to tear up his contract. Now he is thinking of offers from Qatar or other Middle East countries.
Blackburn Rovers look set to sell most of their ageing squad players to make room for new, younger and fresh blood to come in and the player to lead this mass exodus out of the club is former Spanish international defender Michel Salgado, according to reports. However, the reports also indicate that the club has offered talented Canadian forward Junior Hoilett a new contract to keep him from the clutches of fellow English Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspurs and Newcastle United.
Blackburn are looking to sell players like Salgado and defender Vince Grella, who is currently nursing a long term injury within the next two weeks while the transfer window is still open in Asia and North America. Many Major League Soccer or MLS sides have enquired about the availability of the former Real Madrid right back Michel Salgado, who is almost certain to leave the club after being told by the officials that he has no future at Ewood Park.
Salgado joined Rovers in the summer of 2009 after a highly successful 10 year spell at European giants Real Madrid having won two UEFA Champions League titles and four Spanish League titles during that time. It was thought that Salgado would be one of those squad players who would help the team with his experience but ever since the takeover of the club by Venky’s, it was almost certain that he would leave with the owners looking to reduce the wage bill.
Rovers fans, who were left extremely unhappy after the sale of Christopher Samba last week will be even more disappointed to hear of the impending departure of Michel Salgado and it is being reported that they will march against the owners of the club to show their discontent at the way the club is being run by Venky’s.

“Michel won’t be here next season. If there is an opportunity for him to find another solution in this window that is something we would look at. [It is] out of respect for the player to give him the heads up that this will be his last season,” Blackburn manager Steve Kean spoke about the future of Michel Salgado. Even if a move to China does not work out, one can expect Michel Salgado to be arriving in the Middle East in the summer. Players like Guti and Drogba has been linked with Middle East moves.
Blackburn Rovers are ready to move out some fringe stars for more money to spend on transfers and to reduce the payroll in order to save to bring in new faces. Steve Kean will look to shift Michel Salgado if there are takers in order to reduce payroll. Kean and owners Venkys want to bring in new faces but their bankers want their debts lowered and a plan if Rovers take the drop. Salgado is in the final months of his contracts and could possibly move into coaching.
Salgado narrowly missed out on a return from last weekend’s 4-2 win against Swansea at Eastwood Park. But the extra week should provide them the required rest for his hamstring injury to make him fit for the match at the Stadium of Light.
In recent news, Phil Jones, former Blackburn team mate of Michel Salgado was seen as the future England skipper by Salgado. Salgado has played with Jones at Blackburn and knew that he would go on to become a star the very first time he saw him play. According to Salgado, “He is a future England captain – I’m absolutely convinced. I remember a Carling Cup game for Blackburn when he was 17 and I said to people – crickey he’s a good player. I loved his attitude but it was only a Carling Cup game so you reserve judgement and then you see him in the league and he is just as good. Now he has gone to United at 19 and he is among their best players. He has personality and talent”.
